Bust of Bach in the Dornheim churchyard
Bust of Bach in the Dornheim churchyard
The bust of Bach in the churchyard was unveiled in 2002. Like the Arnstadt monument, it was sculpted by Bernd Göbel from Halle/Saale and depicts a young Bach during his professional years in Thuringia.
On 17 October 1707, a wedding party made its way from Arnstadt to Dornheim, three kilometers away. Through a large gate, they entered the enchanting courtyard with Bach's wedding church of St. Bartholomew. The bride and groom were the organist of the Divi Blasii church in Mühlhausen, Johann Sebastian Bach, and his second cousin, Maria Barbara.
