The house, which Johann Sebastian Bach lived in for ten years, became part of the "Erbprinz" hotel in the 19th century. Famous composers such as Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner stayed here. The Weimar historian Karl Bechstein established Bach's place of residence in the 1920s. In 1938/1939, a "Bachstube" was set up in the "Erbprinz". During an air raid in 1945, the house was destroyed apart from the underground Renaissance vaulted cellar and was completely demolished in 1988/1989. Today, the parking lot of the neighboring "Hotel Elephant" is located on the site. Not far from the Bach residence at the front of the Red Palace, a bronze bust by Leipzig sculptor Bruno Eyermann commemorates the composer.
