Bath Colberg

Bad Colberg, a district of the town of Heldburg that was first mentioned in a document in 1289, is located where lush green hills glide gently into the floodplain of the Rodach and you will experience peace and tranquillity. The name Colberg refers to the fact that charcoal kilns were once operated here in the densely wooded surroundings.

Bad Colberg, which has held the title of "State-recognized town with a health spa" since 2002, is well known. for its unique hot bubbling springs. In 1907, almost by chance, a thermal spring with a temperature of 36 °C was discovered at a depth of 471 m while searching for potassium salt. This spring was said to have extraordinary healing powers, especially for diabetes, obesity, gout, heart, kidney, nerve and vascular diseases.

A newly founded bathing company opened the baths in 1910. In 1927, 1974 and 1994, three further thermal springs with different mineralization and temperatures were tapped to replace the original spring, which had dried up. These are a fluoride-containing sodium chloride sulphate thermal spring (34 °C), a magnesium-containing calcium sulphate thermal spring (39 °C) and an over 7 percent thermal brine (47 °C). These springs are natural local remedies for baths, exercise therapy and drinking therapy.
