This idyllic place lies on the middle reaches of the White magpie near Gera. Bad Köstritz is the name given to the small town with the many capital "Bs" - they stand for bath, beer, flowers and baroque music. The beer tradition has played a major role in the town's fame for centuries. The brewing rights are documented in 1506 and 1543 is considered the founding year of the brewing industry. Today's reputation is due to the Köstritzer black beer brewerywhich is also one of the most important in Germany. For the real connoisseurs and anyone interested, brewery tours are offered, where you can experience all the beer production processes up close and, of course, taste the end result.
Bad Köstritz also has a proud history of market gardening and fruit growing. One of the greatest figures in this field was Christian Deegen - an important father of German dahlia breeding, from whose nurseries dahlias, roses and shrubs were even sent overseas. The Dahlia Center today offers a magical atmosphere with its garden, in which the wonderful colors and fine floral scents flow together.
With Heinrich Schütz Bad Köstritz produced its most famous son. He was the most important German composer before Johann Sebastian Bach. His birthplace attracts many visitors to its ancient walls every year. And in honor of the 400th anniversary of his birth, a modernly designed Heinrich Schütz Monument in the center of the city.
For a leisurely stroll, the former Castle park to. One of the most beautiful pieces of architecture there is the small Ionic neoclassical temple. A white statue of the Greek goddess Demeter stands in the middle of the circular columned building.
