The city of Bad Neustadt an der Saale, affectionately called "Neuscht" by its inhabitants, is the county seat of the Rhön-Grabfeld district. The city is known above all for its two largest economic sectors, the health sector with its spa known far beyond the borders of the Rhön and its numerous special clinics, as well as industry, which is one of the largest employers in the region, especially in the electrical sector.

City with heart

All sights of Bad Neustadt an der Saale can be easily reached on foot. The old city wall, which surrounds the old town, extends in a heart shape for about 1.5 km around the city. According to legend, Charlemagne had the wall built in this shape as a sign of his love for Empress Fastrade.

Another sight of Bad Neustadt an der Saale is the Hohentor. It forms the top of the heart and with its 34 meters height is a real landmark of the Rhön town. Other sights in the city are the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the former Carmelite monastery and the Jewish cemetery and the former synagogue.

The Salzburg

Above Bad Neustadt an der Saale lies the Salzburg. It combines seven independent small castles within a large common wall. The main castle is privately owned. The rest of the outer castle is accessible free of charge at all times. Every two years, the large open-air event "Salzburg Classic" takes place here. Within the 900-year-old walls of the Salzburg, well-known works by great composers are performed by first-class soloists, choirs and orchestral musicians, most of whom come from the region.

Spa town Bad Neustadt an der Saale

The Neuhaus district is home to the spa district with all its spa facilities and extensive castle and spa park. In 1853, Elisabeth Countess von Haxthausen had the region's high-quality brine springs bottled and built the first bathhouse. This step laid the foundation for the career of Bad Neustadt an der Saale as one of the most famous health resorts in Bavaria. Today, not only the brine springs, but also the Triarmare wellness and adventure pool offer a place to relax. In addition to a well-equipped sauna area, the swimming pool invites the whole family with a large pool landscape, a diving tower and slides.
