The Rennsteig train station is a station on the Rennsteigbahn in the Thuringian Forest. It is one of the highest railroad stations in Thuringia and is located at an altitude of 747 meters between Stützerbach (Ilmenau) and Schmiedefeld (Suhl) at kilometer 33.38 of the railroad line from Plaue to Themar, the middle section of which is the Rennsteigbahn. The line was built between 1904 and 1906. Regular rail services ran here until 1998. Special trips on the Rennsteigbahn are a popular tourist attraction today.
