Bauhaus Museum Weimar
Bauhaus Museum Weimar
With its contemporary architecture and multimedia exhibition design, the Bauhaus Museum Weimar not only presents the treasures of the world's oldest Bauhaus collection in a new light. The new museum building was opened in 2019 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus. On five levels, it links Weimar Bauhaus history with the questions of shaping life today and tomorrow. As a place of encounter, openness and discussion in a newly emerging quarter, the Bauhaus Museum Weimar offers contemporary perspectives on the ambivalent history of the impact of modernism from its beginnings to the present day. Exhibition „The Bauhaus comes from Weimar“: At the founding site of the Staatliches Bauhaus, the museum recalls the early Weimar phase of the most important design and art school of the 20th century. The Klassik Stiftung Weimar owns the world's oldest Bauhaus collection, which was established by Walter Gropius in 1925. The new museum building offers more than 2,200 square meters of exhibition space for the presentation of the collection, which has now grown to 13,000 objects. The tour through eventful years of art and contemporary history invites visitors to take a closer look at the Bauhaus and its roots in modernism around 1900 as well as current issues of design, art, architecture and society.
The Bauhaus Museum Weimar is part of the „Quartier Weimarer Moderne“ complex.
