There is a legend about the master builder of Großenbehringen Castle who is said to have been beaten to death by a journeyman bricklayer after completing his work. He was after the money he had earned, but only found 6 pfennigs on his victim. A cross was erected along the path in memory of this murder. It used to stand in the field between Behringen and Haina.
