The small mountain lake Ebertswiese is a real insider tip. It is hidden behind rocks and is a real cool-down for hikers in summer. It is really cold. The mountain lake is one of the few bodies of water located directly on the Rennsteig. At over 3000 m², the water depth is 8 to 13 meters. The mountain lake is surrounded on three sides by rocks up to 30 meters high, which form a basin. Until shortly before the end of the war, mining was still carried out in the area of the mountain lake. When a vein of water was drilled into during rock extraction, today's mountain lake was formed within a few days.
