Bickenriede
Bickenriede
Bickenriedefirst mentioned in 1146, is a district of the rural municipality of Dingelstädt in the Eichsfeld district. It forms the south-eastern gateway to Eichsfeld and lies in the charming valley of the Luhne, in front of the forest area Hollau and the small ridge Long marrow in the north.
Worth seeing in the village are the Catholic Church of St. Sebastian, listed Half-timbered houses from the beginning of the 18th century and the Stone table with an old oak tree on the village green. In the district of Bickenriede is the monastery complex of the Cistercian monastery Anrode. This gem with an eventful history is known beyond the municipal boundaries and is an attraction for visitors to the Eichsfeld region.
The Mühlhäuser moat, a late medieval fortification of the former imperial city of Mühlhausen, also runs through the village and can be easily explored from Bickenriede. From more recent times, the ditch and the boundary stones have been preserved. The wooded ditch is protected as a ground monument, natural monument and cultural monument and has a high historical value.
Other worthwhile destinations in the area are the Hainich National Park, the Sacrificial bog bailiwick, a prehistoric cult site, in Niederdorla and the Railroad viaduct in Lengenfeld unterm Stein as part of the decommissioned Eichsfeld Cannon Railway. Both are passable today with bicycle trolleys.
Active nature lovers can enjoy the landscape of the Luhnetal on the Unstrut Cycle Route discover, which also leads through the municipality of Anrode.
