Bischofroda
Bischofroda
The municipality of Bischofroda is located in the Lauter Valley, on the slopes of the Hainich Forest. The village was founded by Bishop Ruthart of Mainz. It was also named after him. The village was first mentioned in 1103 as "Bischcofesrode". The townscape is largely characterized by half-timbered houses, former larger farms, the castle in the center and the church, which is one of the oldest in Thuringia. Thanks to the preservation of its rural character and its loving design with lots of "greenery", Bischofroda was awarded a prize in the "Our village should become more beautiful" competition.
