From 1566, Catholic Christians in Mühlhausen did not have their own church. It was only with the integration into the Kingdom of Prussia in 1802 that a repressive religious policy gradually came to an end. However, it took until 1849 before a legally constituted Catholic parish could be founded. When their efforts to take over one of the unused churches failed, the Boniface Chapel on the Blobach was rebuilt in 1851. It still serves the community today and provides access to the Catholic kindergarten.
