Special plants are preserved here: The botanical adventure garden in Altenburg is all about rare woody plants, ferns and succulents. The numerous plants are used for research, teaching, further education and species conservation, while cultural events and guided tours attract many visitors year after year. Guests can enjoy coffee or wine in a relaxed atmosphere on the terrace of the summer house.

The historic factory garden has been a listed building for ten years.

Founded around 90 years ago by the sewing machine manufacturer Karl K. Dietrich and designed by landscape gardener Hans Dippel, the area is still a flourishing testimony to an outstanding manufacturer's garden. After the end of the war, the garden with its extraordinary stock of trees came into the possession of the town of Altenburg. Exhibitions and the popular plant sale attracted numerous visitors. In 2002, the botanical garden had to close its doors for financial reasons. Three years later, the association "Altenburger Botanischer Erlebnisgarten" was founded, and numerous helpers spent four months bringing the overgrown gem back to life. The reopening was celebrated in spring 2006. Today, the association takes care of the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds. This is financed by sponsors, among others, but also from the proceeds of events. The Altenburg Botanical Adventure Garden has been a listed building since 2008.
