Lignite mining at Bauersberg is documented as early as 1521. With a newly built, accessible show tunnelThe "Einigkeit" lignite mine is a reminder of the long mining tradition in the Rhön and the arduous mining of the past. The visitor mine at the Rothsee near Bischofsheim/Rhön is as a rule Open continuously from Easter to October - It is closed in winter to protect bats. It is around 60 m long and shows how lignite was mined in the past. The visitor mine is equipped with lighting that is actively switched on by the visitor at the entrance to the tunnel.
