Surrounded by an impressive forest scenery, the Brownstone Mill in the Geraberg district of Arlesberg in a wonderfully quiet location directly on the banks of the Gera. Manganese ore, known as manganese dioxide, was mined here until 1982 for use in the steel industry and in the manufacture of glass and ceramics. On a guided tour through the only preserved mill of its kind in Europe or on a hike along the brownstone trail, you will embark on an exciting journey of discovery into the industrial history of the Thuringian Forest. Before or after, the Mühlencafe Geraberg (@muehlencafe.geraberg) with its year-round creative range of home-baked cakes and lovingly designed tarts for all guests for special moments of enjoyment in a friendly and nostalgic café atmosphere.
