Fountain on the moat Weimar
Fountain on the moat Weimar
To the left of the Kasseturm tower in Weimar is an obelisk-shaped fountain made of Berka red sandstone. The town's heraldic animal is enthroned above the curved fountain basin: a lion with water flowing from its mouth. However, little is known about the history of its creation. The year of death of Duchess Maria Pavlovna can be read on the fountain column, who donated several fountains to the town. The Berka stonemason Carl Dornberger is said to have completed the piece with a close connection to Goetheplatz.
