The Hercules-Antaeus group is an original from the Baroque period. Hercules is depicted in a wrestling match with the Libyan giant Antaeus, who, as the son of the earth, receives new strength whenever he is knocked down. Hercules is victorious because he lifts his opponent. The work of art came to Weimar under Carl August.

Goethe's residence: One of the most important testimonies to classical Weimar: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe lived in the baroque-style house on the Frauenplan for almost 50 years. It was remodeled and designed according to the poet's specifications. Today, the house can largely be seen as it was in the last years of Goethe's life.
