Ranis Castle
Ranis Castle
Visitors can see the castle from afar, proudly perched on a rocky ridge above the town of the same name.
The exact year the castle was founded is not known, but it was first mentioned in a document in 1084. The oldest surviving features of the castle date back to the 12th century, such as the old defensive wall and the so-called Saigerturm, which are barely recognizable as such today, integrated into the gatehouse. The large keep, which also dates from this period, can be explored and climbed by visitors themselves.
The current appearance of the castle dates back to the 17th century. The complex consists of a smaller main castle and two more spacious outer castles, which are separated by a gateway.
