Ehrenstein castle ruins

Between Weimar and Rudolstadt, on the Buchenberg or Hainberg above the small community of Ehrenstein, rises the castle ruins of the count's castle of the same name. The Counts of Schwarzburg once resided on the mountain. After various changes of ownership, the castle was abandoned at the end of the 17th century. The compact design of the castle and the rounded corners are remarkable. The 25-metre-high, square keep can be seen from afar.

From the world of legends:

According to legend, the castle was once the widow's residence of the oriental wife of the the dizzy Counts of Gleichen.
