Reichenfels castle ruins

Reichenfels Castle probably stood proudly in the sky as early as the 12th century and was built by the bailiffs of Weida. We don't know for sure, but the first written mention of the castle dates back to 1356.

Today, all that remains of these proud times is a ruin to the west of Hohenleuben, picturesquely embedded in a landscape conservation area. However, since another building was erected on the old castle site over 75 years ago, scientists and history buffs have been drawn to this place time and time again. This is because the building is home to the oldest academic library of local history literature in the entire German-speaking region, containing around 35,000 volumes.

Reichenfels has also been home to the Vogtland Antiquities Research Association since 1825, which is one of the oldest German historical associations. Once a year, an open-air concert by the Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestra, the „Burg Classics“, takes place here.
