Chinese Garden Weißensee
Chinese Garden Weißensee
The Garden of eternal happiness extends over 5400 square meters on the grounds of the Johanniterhof in Weissensee. Over the course of four months, Chinese garden experts from Shanghai worked with landscape architect, urban planner and artist Jens-Christian Wittig to create a garden that Mayor Peter Albach describes as a walk-in work of art. Nothing comparable can be found in Germany or Europe, as the size, design, artistic features and the path to the lake pavilion through the city wall and chestnut avenue are unique in this ensemble.
Visitors are greeted by two lions at the large Chinese entrance gate. Then follows a barrier-free, curved path to the wedding pavilion. A small stream flows into the pond, which is filled with rainwater from the church roof, among other things. Bamboo, pavilions in Chinese architecture as well as 26 sculptures and 13 wall reliefs with special motifs are impressive. Plants such as cypresses, sequoias, ornamental apple and mock beech round off the experience of the centuries-old, important Chinese garden art.
