Christes is a municipality in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia. It belongs to the Dolmar-Salzbrücke administrative community, which is based in Schwarza. Christes has around 600 inhabitants and is located in a wooded area in the Meiningen-Zella-Mehlis-Schmalkalden triangle. The municipality was first mentioned in a document in 833 and is known for its healing well (Christus-Born) and their Gothic basilica (Our Lady of Christ). Christes is a popular excursion destination for hikers and nature lovers. The municipality has an elementary school, a kindergarten, a sports field, a village square and several clubs. Christes is a lively and traditional community in the Thuringian Forest.
