Christ Church Nazza
Christ Church Nazza
The year 1560 is inscribed on a stone plaque next to the former main entrance as the year the current church was built. Corresponding to this period, stylistic elements from the transition from Gothic to Renaissance can be found, for example in the window design. Rediscovered foundation walls, a crucifix carved between 430 and 1440, a sacrament house carved in stone on the upper gallery and a bell from 1510 point to a previous building. There is a note from 1758 about the existence of an even older bell from 1480.
From 1513, the former Knights of Malta of Hopfgarten were hereditarily enfeoffed with the „Amt Hayneck“. This family also had the current church built in 1560 and had their „nobleman's gallery“ installed on the north side. Under this gallery is their family vault, which is covered by a gravestone for Hans Ernst von Hopfgarten, who died in 1717.
On September 12, 1971, after extensive exterior and interior renovations and the relocation of the main entrance to the south side, the church was rededicated. Since then, it has borne the name „Christuskirche“.
