A testimony to the early Renaissance opposite the Historic Town Hall in Weimar: Lucas Cranach the Elder had his "painter's studio" here on the market square and worked on the famous three-winged altarpiece for the town church - the work completed by his son. Characteristic of the building's architecture are its dwarf gables, cornices, pilaster strips and arched portals in the style of the classical German Renaissance. Today it houses a cabaret. The neighboring Stadthaus houses the Weimar Tourist Information Office.
