The narrowest house in Eisenach

The narrowest half-timbered house in Germany, probably only 2.05 meters wide, is located on Johannisplatz in Eisenach. Thanks to a private initiative, it was saved from demolition in the 1970s and now delights visitors from near and far with its lovingly restored half-timbered façade.

The "Schmale Haus" is said to be well over 250 years old. It is also affectionately known as the "towel" by locals and guests alike. And indeed, with a width of just 2.05 meters, it is barely larger than a bath towel. The curious building has a floor area of 20 m² and has two storeys.

The house can currently only be viewed from the outside.
