The "cane-making village" of Lindewerra
The "cane-making village" of Lindewerra
Lindewerra, a small village in Eichsfeld, is "the cane-making village of Germany". As early as 1836, Wilhelm Ludwig Wagner began making walking aids from local oak saplings in Lindewerra. He became a master craftsman for many villagers and the trade flourished. Around 1900, there was hardly a family that wasn't busy making walking sticks. Today there is still a stick-making workshop and the stick-making museum in Lindewerra.
