The modern, spacious cottage of the German Alpine Club is located at the beginning of the Breiten Grund at an altitude of 790 m between the Auerhahn (Stützerbach) and Dreiherrnstein (on the Rennsteig) inns. From here you can Hikes to Manebach, Stützerbach, Ilmenau, Frauenwald, Schmiedefeld a.R., Masserberg, Neustadt am Rennsteig or to the peaks of Kickelhahn, Schneekopf, Hundskopf, Auersberg and many others. Also a groomed trail leads past the hut.
