The monumental-looking memorial stone in the shape of a truncated pyramid, adorned with a portrait of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, and its outdoor facilities were erected by members of the gymnastics club on a voluntary basis. The only costs incurred were for cartage, stone carving and demanding bricklaying work. In 1961, the facility was restored by the gymnastics club and provided with new inscription plaques. The view of the town and the Thuringian Forest mountain range is impressive.
The monument was erected in memory of the initiator of the German gymnastics movement Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778-1852), also known as "Turnvater Jahn".
