Think stone travertine Ehringsdorf
The memorial stone is located next to the Red Tower in Belvedere Park and has a text plaque commemorating the importance of travertine in the region. The calcareous spring waters from the travertine deposits around Ehringsdorf attracted large mammals to drink - including forest elephants, bison and forest rhinos, which Ice Age man hunted here. When the travertine was quarried, the remains of the animal and plant life as well as the resting places of the prehistoric hunters were uncovered. In 1925, the skull of an ice-age woman was even discovered at a depth of 18 meters. The stone was handed over to the public in October 1990.
