The White Tower
The White Tower
The White Tower, one of Pößneck's landmarks, was built in 1453. The youngest of the four corner towers of the old town fortifications is the only one still completely preserved. It is 30.30 m high and has a diameter of 7 m. The lowest of the former three storeys was once used as a dungeon where felons had to spend the days before their execution. The name "White Tower" is derived from the white lime cladding. In the Middle Ages, it was only referred to as the "Tower" or "Upper Tower". It has been used as an observation tower since 1994. The key is available from the town information office.
