Dermbach, central place of the Vorderrhön rich in crests, situated in the scenic middle Feldatal, directly on the B 285. 1186 first documentary mention of the community, which today has 3500 inhabitants. Starting point for rewarding Rhön hikes on signposted hiking trails (approx. 65 km). Worth seeing are: Baroque ensemble consisting of Protestant church (1714), Catholic church (1732/36), castle (1707); historic market place, beautiful half-timbered houses, village well, bakehouse, "Sächsischer Hof" (1623), museum of local history, attractive outdoor swimming pool, nature reserve "Ibengarten" with the oldest yew tree population in Germany (600-800 years). From November to March, on the last Saturday of each month, the pigeon market takes place, a small animal market known beyond the region.
