The German National Theatre with Staatskapelle Weimar is one of the most historic theaters in Germany and is home to the Staatskapelle Weimar, one of the oldest orchestras in Germany - and the only A-list orchestra in Thuringia - as well as an excellent ensemble of actors and musicians. The Kunstfest Weimar is also located under the roof of the theater: founded in 1990 as one of the first German-German cultural initiatives, it is now Thuringia's largest and best-known festival for contemporary arts.
