Donndorf Fountain Weimar
Donndorf Fountain Weimar
The author and sculptor Adolf von Donndorf donated the larger-than-life bronze figure group to his native city of Weimar. A life-size mother fetching water with her two children rises from a two-part fountain basin carved from granite. The fountain is flanked by two water-spouting lion heads. The water comes from the springs of a nearby hollow called "Rabenwäldchen". The bronze group is a replica of the "James Fountain" in New York. Donndorf also created the equestrian statue of Grand Duke Carl August in Weimar on the Platz der Demokratie and the tomb relief of Charlotte von Stein in Weimar's historic cemetery.
