The Romanesque hall church made of quarry stone stands on a small hill. It has a choir tower with a semi-circular, vaulted apse. The nave, covered with a slate gabled roof with dormer windows, was renovated in the 15th century and rebuilt after a fire in 1637. An extension made of plastered half-timbering was built in the south-west. The church was restored in 1887.

The church tower has three storeys, with the belfry located on the top storey, in which hangs a bell cast in 1639 by Melchior Mörinck from Erfurt. Above it rises a four-sided truncated pyramid, on which sits an eight-sided bulbous dome crowned by a lantern. The choir and nave have been spanned by a wooden barrel vault since 1654, but are separated from each other by a belt arch. There are two-storey galleries on three sides. Their balustrades are painted with scenes from the Old Testament and the New Testament.

The pulpit with a 17th century sounding board is located on the southern side of the belt arch. On the second gallery level on the west side is an organ with 11 stops, spread over one manual and one pedal, which was built in the 18th century by Ludwig Wilhelm Hähner, the stepson of Johann Stephan Schmaltz.
