Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine the exact year of construction of the church. The church itself is characterized by numerous conversions and extensions. Both externally and internally, it is kept simple and does not stand out due to its magnificent decorations and ornamentation. The pointed arch windows on the north and east sides probably date back to the 16th and 17th centuries, while the windows on the south side were inserted during renovations in 1838. The galleries on the west, south and north sides also date from this period.

The church organ was built by the Paulinzella master organ builder Friedrich Menger. It was also installed between 1838 and 1839.

The church has many parallels to the castle chapel at Leuchtenburg. However, this was used as a prison in the 18th and 19th centuries. Incidentally, the priest at the time was in charge of both places of worship.
