The church is located in the Grabe district of Mühlhausen. The church was first mentioned in documents in 1293. In 1744, the church underwent a baroque extension. The church was extensively renovated in 1817. One bell was cast by Nicolaus Tuppenesser in 1448, another bell dates back to the 16th century. The altar and baptismal font date back to the Middle Ages.

The church is Protestant and is run by the Mühlhausen church district. Church services are held here regularly. Grabe is located on the Loccum-Volkenroda pilgrimage route.
