Merkendorf, now a district of Zeulenroda-Triebes, was first mentioned in 1324. The picturesque village pond invites you to linger. The 1st Thuringian Planet Trail also runs through Merkendorf - the stone for the planet Uranus is located at the pond. In the very well-preserved village center, next to the village pond, you will find the typical Thuringian half-timbered construction style, which can be found in many of the well-kept houses in the village.
