Eckermann House Weimar
Eckermann House Weimar
The house at Brauhausgasse 13 is one of the oldest and most beautiful town houses of the 16th century. And although Johann Peter Eckermann, a close confidant and collaborator of Goethe, had several residences in Weimar - including on Theaterplatz and Marktstraße - this building near the Frauenplan is named after its owner. Eckermann, who came from a poor background and was appointed a court councillor, documented the "Conversations with Goethe" as his private secretary. They provide a comprehensive insight into Goethe's work and activities in Weimar. Despite his deep attachment to Goethe, Eckermann had to leave his home before Goethe's death and died lonely in Steubenstraße.
