First mentioned in 1405, the mill was powered by the Unstrut millrace and operated as a grinding mill with a medium-sized water wheel. After the installation of a turbine in 1910, the mill operated until the 1980s. The historic mill building (clinker brick construction) dates back to 1902 and has been home to the Mühlhausen Telecommunications Museum since 2000.
