Former monastery church of St. Peter and Paul
Former monastery church of St. Peter and Paul
Despite considerable interventions in the substance of the former monastery church of St. Peter and Paul in the 19th century, it is one of the most important Romanesque church buildings in Thuringia. As the spiritual center of St. Peter's Monastery, it shaped the silhouette of the city of Erfurt for centuries before its destruction. Partially renovated for the BUGA 2021, it is now once again the focal point of the Petersberg and will impress visitors with the exhibition "Paradise Gardens - Garden Paradises". The special exhibition presents the development of courtly garden art in Thuringia and uses the example of the gardens of the defunct St. Peter's Monastery to shed light on medieval garden culture and its history and architecture.
After the Federal Garden Show, the church will generally be available for event use.
