Eiermannbau Apolda
Open Factory: Vacant architectural icon is collectively activated
An extraordinary place of modernity, an IBA Thuringia project, with plenty of space for working, exhibiting, producing and a roof terrace for relaxing together: Welcome to the Open Factory in the Eiermannbau Apolda! In 1938/39, the architect Egon Eiermann extended a former textile factory for Total AG Feuerlöschgerätewerke. Production continued on site until 1994, after which it stood empty for a long time. In May 2018, the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Thuringia moved in as the first user, developing the Eiermannbau into an Open Factory together with the project partners City of Apolda and LEG Thüringen, which owns the monument.
