The municipality of Elleben is located in the Ilm district, around 15 kilometers south of Erfurt and ten kilometers east of Arnstadt. The municipality includes the districts of Riechheim and Gügleben. The Riechheimer Berg, which gives its name to the Riechheimer Berg administrative community, is located in the Riechheim district.
