Ellingshausen is a municipality in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia. It belongs to the Dolmar-Salzbrücke administrative community. Ellingshausen has around 400 inhabitants and is located on the southern slope of the Dolmar, an extinct volcano. The municipality is characterized by agriculture and has a church, a kindergarten, a sports field and a village square. Ellingshausen is a place with history, because The peasant leader Thomas Müntzer was captured here in 1525. Today, Ellingshausen is a popular excursion destination for hikers and cyclists who want to enjoy nature and tranquillity.
