The Sülzhayn district of the town of Ellrich is located in a quiet valley and offers views of the surrounding mountains and forests of the southern Harz. The forest settlement was established around the year 950 and the spa industry developed in Sülzhayn at the end of the 19th century. Many half-timbered houses and villas still bear witness to the once fashionable climatic health resort. The baroque St. Catherine's Church, built around 1700, dominates the townscape. The numerous rhododendrons are impressive and give the annual village festival its name. Many hiking trails lead into the idyllic surroundings and cyclists can enjoy the Harz circular trail and the Harz Mountain Bike Arena.
