The spacious park in a romantic style was laid out in 1782 at the behest of Duke Georg I of Saxe-Meiningen. It is a refuge for "little relaxation" in the town and a trail of Meiningen's cultural history.
In the summer months, concerts and performances enliven the park.
Old trees, the impressive theater architecture, artificial ruins and the stone arched bridge are reflected in the water surface of the pond. The paths meander through the park between groups of trees, meadows and hills. The neo-Gothic crypt chapel and the numerous monuments have been incorporated into the park, so that you can encounter many "ghosts" who wrote cultural history in Meiningen, such as the monuments to Max Reger, the musician Hans von Bülow, the bust of the poet Jean Paul and the Bechstein Fountain in honor of the fairy tale poet Ludwig Bechstein. The most important monument was dedicated to Johannes Brahms. Brahms was closely associated with the ducal family and the court chapel. Just two years after his death, the monument was inaugurated with the bust created by Adolf von Hildebrand, making it the first Brahms monument in Germany.
