Since the new town hall was built in 1564, the so-called "Trödelgasse" and the "Städtische Fleischbänke" were located on the site of today's Markt 2 building. In 1887, an extension for the municipal police station was built on the previously free-standing east façade of the town hall. After the premises of the police station had already been converted for the "Städtische Spar- und Girokasse" from 1918, a new savings bank building was erected on the market square in 1923/24 under city planning officer Dr. Hugo Heidrich in the neo-Renaissance and Art Deco style. As a result of several subsequent alterations to the counter hall, only the columns and the relief panels have been preserved. The building at Markt 2 is registered as a cultural monument in the Thuringian register of monuments.
