St. Katharina Wintzingerode Protestant Church
St. Katharina Wintzingerode Protestant Church
A fortified church with a courtyard was mentioned in documents in Wintzingerode in 1387. As this church had no patronage, it was consecrated in 1998. The tower with its thick walls and small embrasure-like windows is evidence of a fortified church. In 1630, the church burned down to its foundations and was not rebuilt in the simple Baroque style until 1700. The windows with the coat of arms of the Wintzingerode ruling family and the baptismal angel, which was donated by this family, are particularly noteworthy.
