Exotic inhabitants also roam the green landscape of the Altenburger Land region, as the Burkhardt family has been breeding ostriches in Lumpzig, not far from Altenburg, since 2009. Former building contractors Monika and Bertram Burkhardt wanted a change of career and, inspired by an ostrich farm in France, they decided to set up a farm to breed the ratites.
In the farm's "Ostrich Villa", you can experience the animals up close and even watch the little chicks in the "Ostrich Kindergarten" as they take their clumsy steps. In the outdoor enclosure, the large animals stride through the grass and enjoy the spacious pasture landscape that has been created for them. In addition to the actual breeding operation, the farm's products can be purchased in the on-site farm store.
