Situated between Hainich and Meißner, surrounded by steep slopes and mixed forests, the village offers Digester with a district size of 716 ha a contemplative idyll. Half-timbered houses characterize the village. The most prominent point in the village itself is the Catholic Church of St. Martin. It was built in 1753 with a baroque altar from the dissolved Reifenstein monastery.

The forested mountains, the highest is the "Schlegelsberg" with 461 m, offer a relaxing view for hikers seeking recreation into the Faulungen valley. There is also a circular hiking trail around Faulungen. The attentive nature lover will not miss a healthy game population as well as the many plum trees lining the path. This circumstance certainly prompted the ancestors to boil down plum puree (Zwetschgenmus) to a special extent.

In the meantime, the boiling down of the mush has become a tradition, which was revived by the Kirmesverein in 1999. Since then, a mush festival is celebrated every two years. Guests from near and far come to taste the delicious home-cooked mush and to admire the Musk Queen, elected for two years, who presents this old tradition and her hometown during this time. Due to the joy of the opening of the border and the disappearance of the border area, the Faulunger Heimatfest has been celebrated every year at Whitsun since 1990.
