Blankenberg light railroad
The light railroad is located in the Blankenberg district of the municipality of Rosenthal am Rennsteig in the Saale-Orla district of Thuringia. It has a track gauge of 600 mm. The 2 km long light railway line runs along the Saale river from the old Blankenberg paper mill to the "Ziegelhütte" hiking parking lot at the entrance to Blankenstein. The line, which is owned by the municipality, and the vehicles are to be preserved in their last state of use and presented to the public on certain dates. The Blankenberg light railroad is operated by the Förderverein der Parkeisenbahn Syratal Plauen e.V.. This former factory railroad of the Blankenberg paper factory originally ran for just over two kilometers directly along the Saale river from the factory premises in a westerly direction to the main Rosenthal plant in Blankenstein. After the division of Germany, the line ran directly along the inner-German border between the federal states of Thuringia and Bavaria.
